A Sunshine Coast not for profit company is today announcing its new initiative – the Centre of Excellence in Behaviour Support Training. Your Best Life Disability and Health Services has launched the Centre to advance the availability and quality of behaviour support practitioners on the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Caboolture.
With a firm foundation in evidence-based practices and a focus on human rights, the Centre offers a comprehensive approach to employing and offering training to Behaviour Support Practitioners that will elevate the quality of care for individuals receiving support.
At the Centre’s core is a mission to improve the quality of life for participants by better equipping the practitioners who support them. This approach is rooted in respect, ethics, and a commitment to person-centred outcomes. Through a combination of rigorous training, clinical expertise, and the latest research in Behaviour Analysis and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), the Centre is positioning itself as a regional leader in shaping a sector focused on quality, dignity, and independence for people with disabilities.
“We know that quality of life should be the ultimate goal of behaviour support,” said Svetlana Daly, Manager of the Centre of Excellence in Behaviour Support Training. “But that doesn’t happen unless we invest in the practitioners who deliver it. Our training program is about equipping these professionals with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make real, lasting change in the lives of those they support.”
The Centre’s training program is fully aligned with the NDIS Behaviour Support Capability Framework, ensuring practitioners are not only meeting but exceeding the expectations set by the NDIS Commission. The curriculum is designed to equip participants with the skills needed to apply the latest research in behaviour analysis and trauma-informed practice, while delivering results that enhance dignity, independence, and personal goals for the people they serve.
Debbie Blumel, CEO of Your Best Life Disability and Health Services which auspices the Centre, emphasised the importance of evidence-based practice and clinical expertise in driving positive outcomes. “Our approach isn’t just about meeting compliance standards – it’s about shaping a sector where the highest-quality, person-centred support is the norm, not the exception,” she said. “We’re empowering our practitioners to lead with knowledge and compassion, creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
What sets the Centre apart is the depth of clinical expertise embedded in its programs. Led by experienced practitioners with decades of real-world experience, the training focuses on practical implementation in complex case management, trauma-informed care, and diverse support settings.
The Centre is committed to developing practitioners who can apply their skills directly to enhance the lives of individuals they support. Ms Blumel said that this approach would help to shape a future in which high-quality behaviour support is a consistent, impactful force across the region.
